Entrevista con Mark Hunter (Chimaira) "La vida después de Chimaira ha sido bastante ocupada"

Hace poco tuvimos la oportunidad de tener una pequeña charla con el vocalista de los extintos Chimaira, Mark Hunter quién nos contó un poco de su vida actual, sus recuerdos y su carrera como fotógrafo. 


TMR: Gracias por tu tiempo Mark, cuéntanos ¿Qué ha sido de tu vida desde la separación de Chimaira?
Mark: La vida después de Chimaira ha sido bastante ocupada, ya no estoy de gira, así que he sido capaz de tomar un montón de proyectos. Que siempre quise hacer, pero para los cuales nunca tuve tiempo. He trabajado en mi carrera como fotógrafo y pasando mucho tiempo 

TMR: ¿Cuáles son tus recuerdos favoritos con Chimaira?
Mark: Hay tantos de donde elegir que mi cerebro se apaga cuando intento elegir uno. La cosa más genial en la que pienso es en los años que pasamos de ser una banda que ensayaba solo con el sueño de estar de gira con Slayer, luego de eso firmamos con una compañía discográfica. Todo pasó tan rápido que no creo que ninguno de nosotros se dio cuenta de que demonios paso.

TMR: ¿Cuál es tu disco favorito de Chimaira?
Mark: Generalmente soy parcial con el lanzamiento más reciente, pero si tuviera que ir contra la corriente diría que “The Infection”, creo que la banda estaba en un buen momento tanto financiero como a nivel de amistad. 

TMR: ¿Existen posibilidades de un regreso de Chimaira? 
Mark: No soy astrólogo ni tengo una bola mágica, pero si la tuviese, te diría que las posibilidades de un regreso son bastante desalentadoras. 

TMR: ¿Cuáles son tus planes para el futuro?
Mark: Seguir creciendo como ser humano e intentar comenzar nuevos proyectos artísticos ya sea como músico o como fotógrafo, lo que sea realmente. 

TMR: Ya que lo mencionaste, coméntanos un poco de tu carrera como fotógrafo ¿Cómo va eso?
Mark: Va muy bien, estoy comenzando de a poco y enfocándome en lo que me gusta fotografiar, gracias a las redes sociales he sido capaz de mostrar mi trabajo. He sido lo suficientemente afortunado para conseguir clientes. El hecho de que sea un músico famoso no significa que inmediatamente coseche grandes éxitos como fotógrafo, pero estoy dando lo mejor y me apasiona lo que hago. 

TMR: Hablando un poco de música ¿Que bandas escuchas actualmente?
Mark: ¿Bandas? (risas)- Principalmente escucho raperos y artistas Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Childish Gambino, J Cole, MIA, Diplo … no es lo que piensas. 

TMR: ¿Cuál es tu posición sobre la descarga ilegal de música?
Mark: Estoy completamente a favor de las descargas


TMR: ¿Qué nos puede contar de tu colaboración con la banda Psychocalypse?

Mark: Últimamente he hecho un montón de apariciones como vocalista invitado (markhunter.net/music) Psychocalypse me presento una canción que estaba fuera del metal que suelo cantar. Desafortunadamente la producción no era la mejor, así que mi ingeniero, Tony Gammalo y yo ayudamos e hicimos una gran colaboración en la voz y la mezcla. Actualmente estamos trabajando en una segunda canción. Creo que Ludo escribe buenos coros en los riff lo que se complementa muy bien con mi estilo. 

TMR: Cuéntanos un poco de tus recuerdos sobre Chile y Latinoamérica
Mark: Ame los países que pude visitar, ame la comida y los fans eran asombrosos. Me encantaría tener la oportunidad de visitar Latinoamérica como turista. 

TMR: Finalmente, este espacio es tuyo puedes decir lo que quieras a tus fans en Latinoamérica y en el mundo.

We recently had the opportunity to have a little chat with the former Chimaira's vocalist, Mark Hunter who told us a little of his present life, his memories and his career as a photographer.
TMR: First of all, What has been your life since the Split of Chimaira?
Mark: Life after Chimaira has been busy. I’m not on the road anymore so I’ve been able to take on a ton of projects I’ve always wanted to do but never had the time for. I have been working toward a career in photography as well as spending a lot of time involved with physical fitness. 

TMR: What are your favorite memories with Chimaira?
Mark: There are so many to choose from that my brain automatically shuts down when I try to pick one. The coolest thing I can think of is that within a few years we went from a band in a practice space with only a dream to being on tour with Slayer signed to our dream record label. It happened so fast I don’t think any of us realized what the hell was going on. 

TMR: What is your favorite album of Chimaira?
Mark: I’m usually partial to the most current release but if I had to go against the grain I’d say The Infection. I think the band was at a high point financially and in terms of being close friends. 

TMR: Are there chances that Chimaira return at some point?
Mark: I’m not an astrologer nor do I own a magic 8 ball anymore but if I did or was, I’d say the chances are pretty grim. 

TMR: What are your future plans?
Mark: Continue to grow as a human and attempt to start some new cool artistic projects whether it be music or photography or anything, really. 

TMR: Tell us a little about your career as a professional photographer. How's that?
Mark: It’s going great. I am starting small and mainly focusing on shooting things I love but thanks to Social Media and being able to showcase my work, I’ve been fortunate enough to get some client work as well. Just because I was famous as musician does not mean I’ll automatically make it as a photographer, but I am doing my best and am passionate about what I do. 

TMR: What bands are you listening?
Mark: Bands? Haha – I mainly listen to rappers and artists. Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Childish Gambino, J Cole, MIA, Diplo… it’s not what you think. 

TMR: What is your position  about the illegal downloading of music?
Mark: I am pro-downloading. 

TMR: What can you tell us about your collaboration with the band Psychocalypse?
Mark: I’ve been doing a lot of guest vocals lately – markhunter.net/music – and Psychocalypse presented me a song that wasn’t standard metal that I’m used to singing. Unfortunately, the production wasn’t the best so my engineer, Tony Gammalo and I helped out there and we did a cool collaboration on the vocals and the mix. We’re actually working on 2nd song as we speak. I think Ludo writes good chorus riffs that complement my style well. 

TMR: Tell us your memories of your last visit to Chile and Latin America?
Mark: I loved the countries I was able to visit, the food, the fans were awesome. I’d love to have the chance to visit as a tourist some time.
