Is the most
awaited Thrash Metal album on this year, with high expectations after some official
releases about his homonym single “Repentless” and “You against you”. Maybe Repentless
means for Slayer become in the real
Thrash Metal legend most sadistic and violent of the history. We don’t
know yet how will be the public reaction, but I have my own perception.
This is not
any album released by a band; this is the fucking perfection draining through
worldwide veins. This is Slayer
taken the control! Whit his eleventh album, also, the first without Jeff Hanemann
(R.I.P). They have an original line-up compose by Tom Araya, Kerry King, and
Paul Bostaph, with the participation of Gary Holt on lead guitar.
On the
theme of the disc we found lyrics representing perfectly the terrene disasters
of real world, with the non-appearance generous God, or the intent of ruthless
God. Slayer play with both roles of
God, like in God Hates Us All, but much better. Slayer has become accustomed to ruthless lyrics about des-humanity
or to naive Christians. Well, here we can find both thematic in a same song,
and that is awesome.
The sound
is the best of the album. The composition to the songs take us back to the
times of Hell Awaits, beside to the modern sound and great manufactured
that willfully heightens some songs to manifest the chaos, deepens the sound to
other songs to manifest a war hell. The perform with the tones is amazing and
be around by the technically sadistic that we highlight.
The Gary
Holt participation in the album is incredibly noticeable and devastating; with faster
solos like an Exodus style, beside a
Kerry King distorts in a second position the most ruthless solos. Gary already
has time playing in Slayer, which has given rise to even speculate about him as a official part of the band.
On the
other hand, it was said that Paul Bostaph would not achieve the level to Dave
Lombardo in his participation. To a certain extent, this it was true, because
Bostaph done something completely different to Lombardo, so there is not
comparison. In this album, Paul left his soul; he wanted be the Slayer’s heaviest drummer, and we feel
how if his drumsticks were of carbon Steel. His participation is really a joy. Watch the video about Paul Bostaph recording "Repentless"
The album
structure elapses song by song without giving breaths and pauses. Slayer teach to new school bands how to
make a Thrash Metal album with balls. Practically it is a high referent and
this disc have left the score in a high place.
Long story
short, Slayer has exceeded his
barriers, created an album that stunts, that it represents the world stage, and
moreover it do it with his characteristic moral aggression and lyric violence. It’s
not the same to the albums that they have made since the Diabolus in Musica until
the World
Painted Blood. This is like the chalice with the blood of Satan, and in
the worst case, a slap of King Kong on your neck. I recommend this album, so if
you have money saved, invest it in buying this masterpiece LP of 42 minutes.
The real repentless are in not listen it. Repentless, surely, is the best
Thrash Metal album of the year.
